The Malawi Olympic Committee (MOC) has reaffirmed its commitment to environmental sustainability by participating in a tree planting exercise at Stepping Stones School, an initiative aimed at promoting environmental conservation and raising awareness about climate change among young learners.
The activity brought together students, teachers, and representatives from MOC, all working side by side to plant trees and encourage a culture of environmental responsibility. Through this hands-on approach, learners were given an opportunity to understand the importance of protecting natural resources and the role they can play in safeguarding the environment.
Speaking during the exercise, Stepping Stones School teacher Charity Kaponya emphasized the educational value of the initiative, noting that it helps instill lifelong environmental awareness in students. She highlighted that tree planting is a practical way of teaching learners about the many benefits trees provide, including oxygen, shade, and overall ecological balance.
Representing MOC, James Mangani expressed the Committee’s continued dedication to environmental protection, stating that the organization is proud to support initiatives that contribute to a healthier and more sustainable future. He added that MOC remains committed to taking part in activities that positively impact both communities and the environment.
This marks the Malawi Olympic Committee’s second participation in the 2024 tree planting initiative, further demonstrating its ongoing efforts to integrate environmental responsibility into its broader mission.
