Weightlifting and Bodybuilding Association of Malawi has conducted the first International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) Level 1 Coaching Course.

IWF Instructor Serbian Ervin Rozsnyik facilitated the week-long course, which ended on Saturday.

Speaking in an interview, Malawi Olympic Committee (MOC) President, Hon. Jappie Mhango said they organized the course in their quest to improve the standards of the sport in the country.

“The Coaches who attended the course will be instrumental in spreading the sport nationwide. Th sport has been stagnating for years. As MOC, we want Weightlifting to develop because it is an Olympic sport with potential to win medals. The participants showed commitment and enthusiasm throughout the Course. They worked hard. I am optimistic tha weightlifting will not be the same again.”

He said.

On his part, Weightlifting National Coordinator Evance Chikumbu said after the course, they expect participants to develop the sport.

The course focused on kinesiology, exercise prescription, auxiliary lifts and exercises, and training programmes including Olympic pull according to Rozsnyik.
