The Malawi Olympic Committee (MOC) successfully conducted the Empowering Women in Sports Journalism Workshop at Lingadzi Inn in Lilongwe from 5th to 6th November 2025. The two-day event brought together women journalists from across Malawi, with international participant Elizabeth Muchoma from Zambia National Olympic Committee (NOCZ).

Officially opened by MOC President, Honourable Jappie Mhango, the workshop focused on enhancing reporting skills, Promoting leadership among female sports journalists, Improving professionalism, building confidence. Participants engaged in practical sessions and discussions aimed at improving professionalism and amplifying women’s voices in sports media.

Facilitator Dorothy Kachitsa, Chairperson of the Women Association in Media, encouraged participants to actively participate throughout the workshop, highlighting the importance of increasing the presence of women in sports journalism. Frank Kandu, Chairperson of the MOC Media Commission, commended the program as a pioneering effort, marking the first specialized training for female sports journalists in Malawi.

MOC Vice Secretary General, Mr. Denis Kumwenda, presented certificates to participants, encouraging them to apply their skills to positively impact sports media. The workshop represents a significant step in promoting gender equality, diversity, and inclusion in Malawi’s sports journalism landscape.
