The Malawi Olympafrica Centre successfully conducted an Inclusion Workshop at Kamuzu Institute for Sports as part of the ongoing O!YES Programme.
The workshop focused on promoting awareness and understanding of social inclusion and safeguarding, particularly for vulnerable groups. Rooted in the core values of the Olympic Movement, non-discrimination remains a key pillar, with sport used as a tool to promote respect, safety, and coexistence among young people.
Participants were children from surrounding communities who regularly patronize the Centre’s activities, making the session both impactful and relevant to their everyday experiences.
Through interactive sporting activities, children were encouraged to embrace diversity while learning the importance of protecting themselves and others in a safe and supportive environment.
Speaking during the workshop, Centre Director, James Mangani, urged participants to apply the lessons in their daily lives:
“Take heed of the information shared with you so that you can grow into productive young citizens.”

Representative for the Malawi Olympic Committee (MOC) Board, Dennis Kumwenda, encouraged the youth to reject discrimination in both sport and education, urging them to support one another, especially those who are physically challenged. He also emphasized the importance of working hard in school and pledged to follow up on their academic progress.
Facilitator Chisomo Sitima highlighted the link between inclusion and safeguarding, stating:
“Inclusion and safeguarding go hand in hand. Every child deserves to feel safe, valued, and respected, and it is our responsibility to create environments where no one is left behind.”
The workshop was facilitated by dedicated volunteers from the Olympafrica Centre.
