Volleyball trainer Thoko Twambi Chalemba a beneficiary of the Commonwealth Sport Women’s Leadership Program organized a series of free volleyball lessons for boys and girls under the age of 20 in the Southern Region.Chalemba said the week-long activities in Phalombe, Blantyre and Zomba aimed to nurture volleyball talents and act as part of her personal development plan as a Commonwealth Women Leadership Program (CWLP) mentee.

The first activity was conducted in Phalombe, where youngsters she initially trained in July last year were given a chance to showcase the progress they have made through an Under-20 tournament, which also involve a guest team from Mulanje.

“On Sunday, I will be at Kalibu Academy, where I helped to build a school team, for mentoring sessions. It will be a bigger platform for the students to play volleyball, have fun and have a question and answers session about the game,” she said.

On March 23, Chalemba went to Zomba for mentoring sessions of under-18 athletes around Mikuyu Prison and also invited one of the anti-doping ambassadors Adam Benesi for anti-doping lessons in the morning.

Then, they proceed to Chanco (University of Malawi), where young athletes were given an opportunity to learn and interact with experienced players through games involving top volleyball clubs Gemz, Cobbe Barracks and UNIMA Checkers. Reported by Solomon Manda
